Chicago Woman Arrested For Kidnapping Nephew After Promising Him Doughnuts

A Chicago woman has been arrested after she allegedly kidnapped her nephew and brought him to Los Angeles, luring him onto the plane with the promise of doughnuts.

According to police, Erica Davina Rosario of Chicago, Ill. allegedly asked her 12-year-old nephew if he would like to get doughnuts Wednesday morning. But instead of stopping by any of the dozens of doughnut shops in Chicago, she took him to the airport. There, she purchased two one-way tickets to Los Angeles, and tricked the boy into boarding the plane.

After the pair landed at LAX, Rosario, 22, and the boy took a taxi into El Segundo where they ate hamburgers. A security guard confronted the aunt and nephew after they were spotted walking about a half-mile onto the Boeing property. The guard eventually called police after the boy told him that he didn't want to go a police lieutenant told the Daily Breeze.

Police say Rosario had no family ties to California and that she didn't know anyone in the area. Police are looking into whether the boy's parents live in the state - the boy's grandparents are his legal guardians.

The boy is now in protective custody with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. El Segundo police say they're working with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office and the Chicago Police Department regarding the investigation.
