One person was injured in a school shooting at Forest High School in Ocala, Florida. Police have the suspect, who was also a student in custody. Police said the incident was The student was shot in the ankle and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
All schools in the district were put on a code yellow as a precaution.
"In a code yellow, all school doors will be locked and regular classroom instruction continues behind the locked doors," the district's Code of Student Conduct said.
Student a Forest High School were evacuated from the school and bussed to a nearby church.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol, and the FBI have all joined the Ocala Police Department to investigate the shooting.
One witness told the Ocala Star-Banner that the student was in the hallway and fired on a closed classroom door. He then dropped his gun and ran, trying to find a place to hide.
The shooting occurred on the 19th anniversary of the school shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. It happened on the same day that students across the country are planning walkouts and protests against gun violence.
