Florida couple, Kara M. O'Neil and Michael Shawn Kennedy decided it would be a neat idea to go steal teddy bears, plaques, pinwheels, and other items from the memorial set up to honor the shooting victims at a fence near Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
The theft is reported to have happened at 10pm on Sunday. O'Neil, 40, and Kennedy, 37, were arrested on suspicion of removing or disfiguring a tomb or monument after witnesses say they saw the pair steal items from the memorial.
The charges are a felony. At his court hearing Monday, Kennedy attempted to defend himself by saying:
"I feel the charging document has insufficient facia elements ... it is neither a tomb nor a monument."
The judge disagreed.
