A 44-year-old homeless man was murdered during an assault in a homeless encampment at the Civic Center in Santa Ana Sunday night.
The man was found and treated by paramedics in the Plaza of the Flags but was declared dead just before midnight. The plaza is in the courtyard between the Santa Ana City Hall and the Orange County Courthouse.
The is no known motive and no suspects. Investigators are still trying to determine how the victim died, his injuries were not from a gunshot.
