North Carolina Officer Resigns After Video Shows Him Beating Jaywalker

A North Carolina police officer has resigned after body camera footage showed him hitting and using a Taser on a suspected jaywalker.

A judge has also issued an arrest warrant for Senior Police Officer Christopher Hickman on one count each of assault by strangulation, assault inflicting serious injury and communicating threats.


The body cam footage was released in late February and caused major outrage as the video shows Hickman and another officer in training stopping Johnnie Jermaine Rush for allegedly jaywalking.

A few words were exchanged and Hickman moved to arrest Rush, who then began to run away.
