San Francisco Plans to Remove Century Old Statue Deemed "Racist"

The statue deemed by critics to be “San Francisco’s monument to white supremacy” is being removed.

The bronze statue, called "Early Days", features a partially clothed Native American man laying at the feet of a cowboy and a Catholic missionary.

The San Francisco Arts Commission agreed to remove the statue saying:

“This racist and disrespectful sculpture has no place in the heart of our city.”

The statue will be taken down in the coming days and will be placed in storage with an estimated cost of $160,000 to $200,000.
