Black Panther Crosses Half Billion Mark

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - ``Black Panther'' was number one at the nation's box office for the third straight week, and today crossed the half billion dollar sales mark in the North American market.

Studio estimates from Disney show the movie on track to sell $65.7 million in tickets this weekend, ``the third best third weekend ever'' in Hollywood history, according to analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

That adds up to $501.1 million in sales so far in North America, and the worldwide sales figure is $897.7 million.

A spy thriller from Fox, ``Red Sparrow,'' opened this weekend with $17 million in sales. And another premiere, ``Death Wish'' from MGM, captured $13 million in ticket sales to open in third place.

The adult comedy ``Game Night'' was fourth with $10.7 million in this, its second weekend. And hopping in at fifth place was ``Peter Rabbit,'' with a $10 million weekend.

Rounding out the top 10 films this weekend in the United States and Canada, as reported by the studios and gathered by comScore, were ``Annihilation'' ($5.7 million), ``Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle'' ($4.5 million), `` Fifty Shades Freed'' ($3.3 million), ``The Greatest Showman'' ($2.7 million) and ``Every Day'' ($5.7 million).
