Suspect Charged After Alleged Koreatown Attack on 85-Year-Old Grandmother

A suspect in the beating of an 85-year-old grandmother in Koreatown has been re-arrested and charged with one felony count of elder abuse authorities announced on Wednesday. 

A 41-year-old Bell Gardens resident was taken into custody on Tuesday after the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office officially filed charges. Richard Rene Colomo is being held in lieu of $80,000 bail according to online inmate records. 

Colomo allegedly attacked Mi Reum Song on February 10th while walking to a grocery store located in Koreatown Los Angeles Police Department investigators said. Photos of Song provided by her granddaughter, showed extensive bruising and injuries to the 85-year-old's head and face after the attack. Police say Song fell and slammed her head onto the pavement after the man punched her in the face. 

Colomo was initially arrested after police found surveillance video and several tips were turned in about him. The suspect was released on Feb. 16th while prosecutors reviewed the evidence. A warrant for Colomo's arrest was issued on February 22nd, and was located by officers from the LAPD's Olympic division. 

Song is expected to recover from her injuries.
