LAKE FOREST, Calif. (AP) — The Southern California city of Lake Forest was the hottest place in the United States on Saturday, hitting a summer-like record high of 90 degrees.

Temperature records toppled across the region as a winter heat wave moved through, just days after a storm dumped the first significant rain in nearly a year.

Los Angeles International Airport reported a high of 86 degrees and the mercury hit 88 in Long Beach.

Forecasters say highs will be in the 70s and 80s on Sunday. Light rain is possible later in the week.
