Drivers making their way into California are noticing that the "Welcome to California" signs have a little something extra on them. The signs also say "OFFICIAL SANCTUARY STATE. Felons, Illegals and MS13 [gang members] welcome. Democrats Need The Votes!”
There's also the Great Seal of California and a donkey, a symbol of the Democratic Party.
Caltrans spokesman Mark Dinger told Fox News that one of the signs on I-15 near the Nevada border has been taken down, and workers were sent to remove another sign on I-40 near the Arizona border.
Caltrans said in a statement:
“For safety reasons, Caltrans does not permit any unauthorized signs in the state right of way. If we haven’t done so already, Caltrans crews will take steps to remove them.”
Governor Jerry Brown signed Kevin De León's Sanctuary State bill into law back in October, and yesterday the thing officially took effect.
Dubiously dubbed the "California Values Act," the law prohibits state and local law enforcement from working with ICE.
Some similar 'sanctuary' signs went up in Malibu last April after the city decided it was going to be a sanctuary city. Those signs read:
"Official Sanctuary City 'Cheap Nannies and Gardeners Make Malibu Great!' (Boyle Heights Not So Much.)"
