Teen Fatally Stabbed in Temecula, Dies in Girlfriends Arms

A 19-year-old man was stabbed in a Temecula parking lot and died in his girlfriend's arms.

Police say Kevin Rodriguez was fatally stabbed after some sort of altercation that escalated in a Walmart parking lot.

Kevin's parents say his girlfriend of three years saw the attack and held him as he bled out.

The victim's mother, Traci says her son loved his girlfriend deeply.

"And I'm sorry, I'm really sorry for her to have to go through that -- holding him, the way she did. And I'm going to be there for her."

The teen was treated at the scene for his wound, but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

While authorities have not declared a motive behind the attack but the vicitim's dad, Atticus, says it may have been road rage based on what his son's girlfriend says happened.

He says Kevin and his girlfriend were on their way to Walmart to buy some groceries for Atticus' belated birthday dinner.

As they drove into the shopping center, the couple saw another driver who looked anxious and agitated.

"They saw the guy first honking at a lady going through the crosswalk. She said there was a lot of traffic and this guy looked like he was getting really bad anxiety.

He almost hit my son's car. So my son raises his hands and is like, 'What's wrong? What's wrong with you?' Came here to the Walmart, they just figured they're going to walk into Walmart and buy groceries and that's when the altercation happened, the guy got out of his car, went after my son, got him by the throat, he told his girlfriend, 'You're next.'

She's freaking out and she had no idea that he had a knife and stabbed him in the heart."

The girlfriend also told Kevin's parents that the attacker took out his phone and recorded the attack.

After the stabbing, she tried to run back to her car and urged Kevin to come with her.

However, Kevin collapsed and she ran back to him holding him in her arms as he died.

The suspect has since been detained and an investigation is ongoing.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay funeral costs.
