L.A. Councilman Mitch Englander cracks down on RV rentals for squatters

Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch Englander submitted a motion to regulate or ban the practice of renting RVs and motorhomes as dwellings. He says it causes the “exploitation of homeless individuals.”

Englander wants the city attorney and the L.A.P.D. to amend the L.A. Municipal Code, citing a report that RVs are increasingly being rented as places to live.

Englander said:

“We cannot allow illegal landlords to profit by providing substandard living conditions to homeless individuals and those most vulnerable. This motion seeks the necessary tools to eliminate this predatory practice.”

His motion states:

“An unregulated rental market for vehicle dwelling all too often results in the exploitation of homeless individuals and/or those in need of affordable living arrangements.”
