GoFundMe for Homeless Vet Goes Viral

A campaign to help a homeless vet who offered his last $20 to a stranded woman has raised almost $300,000.

Kate McClure says she first met Johnny Bobbitt Jr., a homeless man, when she was driving down Interstate 95 in Philadelphia and ran out of gas.

Scared, she pulled off to the side of the road and planned to walk to a nearby gas station.

However, Bobbitt stopped her and told her to get back in her car and lock her doors.

When he came back, he brought her a red gas can ..using his last $20 to do so.

She says she couldn't pay him back at the time, but she remembered his kindness and over the next few weeks she would find him and give him a jacket, gloves, a hat, socks and some money.

But, McClure says she wanted to more for Bobbitt.

Along with her boyfriend, a GoFundMe page was created with the hopes in raising $10,000 to fund first and last month’s rent, a reliable vehicle and up to six months of expenses for Bobbitt.

The story soon went viral and now the page is at more than $300,000!
