Leeann Tweeden, the former model and current morning radio host who accused Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) of groping her breasts for a photo while she slept, reacted to the senator's apology on Thursday, saying she accepts it but that it could have come sooner.
“The apology, sure, I accept it. People make mistakes, of course he knew he made a mistake. I do accept that apology,” Tweeden told reporters following her bombshell allegations against the comedian-turned-senator.
However, Tweeden added Franken had an opportunity to apologize for allegedly pressuring her into a kiss and groping her during a 2006 USO Tour in the Middle East.
Tweeden said she was cold to Franken when he approached her and her husband at a USO gala event years after the alleged incident, and that Franken tracked her down again later that night and said hello behind her back. “I turned around and walked away from him,” she said.
“He had a chance to apologize to me then,” Tweeden added. “He knew exactly what he did to me then, that picture was out there.”
She also echoed Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) who slammed Franken's initial claim that lewd photo was a joke. “Nothing like that is ever funny. Is it funny if he does add to your sister or your daughter or your wife?” Tweeden said.
