Mother Admits Driving Car With Son Tied To Roof

Amber Schmunk of Fredonia Wisconsin has fond memories of her upbringing some 20 years ago.

One of these is how her dad used to let her sit on top of a moving vehicle when she was about 9.

It was cherished moments like these which helped convince Schmunk that was A-OK to tie her son to the roof of her minivan as she was driving.

Dear God Why

Schmunk fully admits that she committed this reckless endangerment, but she also claims it wasn't done without darn good reason.

The 28 year-old mother told police that she had driven out to go pick up a plastic pool, but soon discovered that it wouldn't fit inside her vehicle.

According to Ms. Schmunk, all was not lost!  Because she had her 9 year-old son with her, she realized that she could transport the pool on top of her car, and use her son as a weight to keep it down.

And tied him down she did, commencing with the risky undertaking.

Fortunately (mostly for her son), she was spotted by a concerned driver who called 9-1-1 and followed Schmunk until her son made it safely off the roof.

She's headed to court on November 14, where she faces up to ten years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
