2 arrested in cold case killing of California man in 2000

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Investigators have announced two arrests connected with the shooting death of a man whose body was found in Southern California mountains 17 years ago.

San Bernardino County sheriff's officials say the case of Timothy Morris' killing was reopened this year after going cold. The 32-year-old was discovered dead in the San Gabriel Mountains in March 2000.

Officials say 40-year-old Carmen Worthey was arrested earlier this month in Texas on suspicion of murder. Detectives say Worthey had been staying with Morris at the time of his death. The Sun newspaper says Worthey pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

The newspaper says John McKinney was arrested on suspicion of murder in Illinois Oct. 18. He's awaiting extradition.

Detectives say McKinney also stayed with Morris around the time of his death.
