Columbus Day is a thing of the past in the City of Los Angeles and now in the county.  The L.A. County Board of Supervisors passed a motion Tuesday saying Columbus Day will be known as Indigenous Peoples Day starting in 2019.

Recently, the City of L.A. made the same decision after weeks of heated debate.  Some supervisors say the decision to change the holiday is not about changing or erasing history, it's about acknowledging that America oppressed certain groups of people for centuries.  Other cities across the country including Seattle and Denver have made the same decision.
