Megyn Kelly Questions Jane Fonda on Plastic Surgery

Megyn Kelly put Jane Fonda on the spot Wednesday morning during an episode of NBC’s TODAY Show, when Kelly brought up Fonda’s history and experience with plastic surgery. Fonda was brought on the show with her Oscar Souls at Night co-star Robert Redford to talk about the new film from Netflix.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fonda and Redford play a widow and widower who eventually fall in love throughout the movie. The film marks a reunion for the stars, who first appeared together in 1967’s Barefoot in the Park.

Kelly referred to Fonda as a “groundbreaker” for playing a female television reporter in 1979, starting the interview by asking, “Why this movie? Why now?”

Jane Fonda said, “Television is helpful for old women. It’s a forgiving medium.”

“You’ve been an example to everyone in how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically. You admit you’ve had work done, which I think is to your credit. But you look amazing,” Kelly said to Fonda. “I read that you said you’re not proud to admit you’ve had work done. Why not?”

Fonda stared at Kelly and then asked: “We really want to talk about that right now?”

Fonda then credited her attitude and posture, as well as her effort in self-care. She then segued back to the film, asking Kelly to let her explain why she loved the movie, rather than to talk about her past plastic surgery.

Kelly then asked Fonda what age she would like to go back to (it was a question provided by an audience member) and Jane Fonda said, “Right now.”

“You kind of have a choice in life when you get close to 80 or even before then, what you want to do with your life,” Fonda told Kelly. “And my character, Addie, in this movie, she knows there’s a lot more time behind her than there is in front and she doesn’t want to go down lonely and scared.”

Oscar Souls at Night will be released Friday, September 29th, on Netflix.
