A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy was arrested on suspicion of raping two female inmates at the County jail in Lynwood.

Giancarlo Scotti, 31, was booked on suspicion of two counts each of rape under color of authority and oral copulation under color of authority, according to Sheriff Jim McDonnell.

“It’s disgusting to all of us, to anybody who wears a badge,” McDonnell told reporters Thursday.

The incident took place in the early morning hours on Wednesday, September 13, inside a cell shared by the two women who were allegedly assaulted, officials said.

Hours later, one of the women reported the incident to a jail teacher, who in turn reported it to jail supervisors and an investigation began.

Scotti was arrested within about five hours of the alleged assaults, McDonnell said.

The deputy has worked for the Sheriff’s Department for 10 years. He was booked at the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station and was assigned to home, with pay, after he posted $100,000 bail.
