Cancer Patient Awarded Millions In Talcum Powder Lawsuit

(Los Angeles, CA)  --  A Los Angeles jury is handing out a massive verdict against Johnson & Johnson and its talcum powder.  The jury today awarded more than $400,000,000 dollars to an ovarian cancer patient who claimed her disease was caused by the talcum powder.

Eva Echeverria is among seven women who filed suit in Los Angeles last year, saying they had for years used talcum powder sold by Imerys Talc American Inc and Johnson & Johnson as the products instructions said to use it.  Lawyers for the New Jersey-based Johnson & Johnson had said Echeverria's claims weren't backed up by scientific evidence.  The company has lost several similar lawsuits over the past couple of years.  Those lawsuits have claimed Johnson & Johnson failed to warn consumers about the cancer risks on the bottles of its talcum powder.
