Activists in South Los Angeles Say Gentrification Form of 'Urban Cleansing'

Some activists in South Los Angeles say the black community in Crenshaw is under attack by new development. Crenshaw Subway Coalition Director Damien Goodman says gentrification has priced families out of the neighborhood.

"Our first goal is to maintain the cultural integrity of this historic black Crenshaw community. These spaces throughout the country are becoming more rare."

Goodman points to a new mall redevelopment project that he says lacks affordable housing. Families would need to make at least a yearly salary in the six-figure range to afford the apartments that are being built.
