More Californians Purchasing Earthquake Insurance

(Sacramento, CA)  --  More Californians are buying earthquake insurance.  The California Earthquake Authority said just under 19,000 new policies were written through the first six months of 2017.  That brings the yearly total to just over 950,000 policies across the entire state.

The authority says more Californians are insuring their homes so they may recover financially following a large and damaging earthquake.  Earthquake insurance is not traditionally part of a homeowners insurance policy, as most policies specifically exclude earthquake coverage.  The CEA recommends residents buy a policy so they are prepared when and if the time comes when another earthquake strikes the state.
