The LAPD officer who has been accused of having sex with a 15-year-old cadet has been booked on felony weapons charges. Robert Cain, a 31-year-old officer is facing charges after LAPD investigators found more than 100 firearms at Cain's Rancho Cucamonga home back in June.
Cain's cache of weapons - which included assault rifles and several weapons that have been determined to be illegal in California - were discovered amid an investigation into the growing cadet scandal in which which cadets have been accused of the theft and improper check-out of vehicles and equipment. During the course of their investigation into the theft of two patrol cars, investigators discovered a series of texts between Cain and a 15-year-old cadet that were determined to be inappropriate in nature.
Cain is currently facing felony charges for unlawful sex with a minor.
Cain turned himself into the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department in Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday. He was booked on weapons charges and his bail has been set at $500,000. The San Bernardino District Attorney's Office has charged Cain with 10 felony weapons crimes, including the possession and sale of assault rifles.
