Mayor Garcetti made a video announcement today:

"We celebrate our independence on July 4, and honor the values of freedom, justice, unity, and equality that make us who we are. Los Angeles joined the Naturalize NOW campaign because those principles are still worth fighting for — and to encourage eligible Angelenos and people across the country to seek a path toward citizenship and join the American family."

The statement on Naturalize NOW's website reads:

"We have an important and time-limited opportunity to empower and protect immigrants in the United States. Naturalization is the most strategic intervention to do so. Across the country, 8.8 million people are eligible to naturalize but haven’t done so yet. We must act NOW to move and support communities to naturalize, empower immigrants - both economically and civically, and permanently protect immigrant families."
