Orange County Rapper's Body Pulled From Kern River

Authorities say a body pulled from the Kern River near the Keyesville campground by campers has been identified as that of an Orange County rapper who went missing more than a week ago.

Ramirez was swept under by strong currents in the Kern River more than a week ago while his girlfriend was watching him swim after they spent the day at the Keyesville campground.

Michael Ramirez's death is another in a series of accidents along a river that has recently been nicknamed "Killer Kern" because of its strong currents and frigid temperatures. Eight people have died or gone missing over the last three months in connection with the waterway.

After a wet winter, the recent snowmelt has turned the tenth-longest river in the US into a whitewater rafting hobbyists' dream - and a swimmer's nightmare. Law enforcement officials have been warning campers and hikers to stay out of the river, unless they are with a certified rafting company.

Ramirez was best known as a member of an underground hip-hop group Rebellion Warfare, under the pseudonym Dossicc. He had been camping with friends to celebrate his 27th birthday when he went missing.
