Video: Attempted Kidnapping in Irvine

After police released the surveillance video of an attempted kidnapping of a baby store employee, they caught their man.

The video released shows a woman working at the Mon Beau Bebe store alone when a man entered the store.

The two appeared to be speaking when the woman turned away from the man and that's when he grabbed her ponytail.

He then tried to drag her, but released her when she apparently told him the entire scene was being recorded via surveillance.

Irvine police spokeswoman Kim Mohr says it wasn't clear what the man was trying to do.

“We can’t speculate as to what his intent was, but he was trying to drag her against her will into that storage room. So that’s why we are calling it an attempted kidnapping, because he was trying to forcibly remove her from one place to another.”

Charlie Choi

The suspect was described as an Asian man in his 40s, and by early evening they say they had their suspect in custody---47-year-old Charlie Choi.
