White powder found in toy dispenser NOT cocaine

A toy vending machine at a taco shop in Bell Gardens that was supposedly dispensing cocaine and not toys, is not dispensing cocaine after all.

Yesterday, it was reported that after a boy put a quarter into one of those little toy vending machines, the little ball of putty disintegrated into a white powdery substance. Police initially identified the white powder as cocaine, but later tests led investigators to withdraw their initial conclusion.

Police say now that the first result was a 'false positive' and  that the powder may have actually been talcum or baking soda.

Seventeen other balloon toys similar to the one that the boy found were also found in the machine.

The toys, which are usually a cute distraction for kids, can be purchased in bulk online or from wholesalers.
