Mili Hernandez is so good she is playing up two age levels on U-11 for Omaha’s “Azzuri Cachorros” girls’ club soccer team. She also likes to wear her hair short because she did not like it when it got longer.
Her short haircut led the tournament organizers to believe she was a boy and they disqualified her team.
“She was in shock,” Mili’s father Gerardo Hernandez, said. “She was even crying after they told us.”
“Just because I look like a boy, doesn’t mean I am a boy, but they don’t have a reason to kick the whole club out,” Mili said.
The Hernandez family even showed the tournament organizers her insurance card that showed she was a girl but they would not change their minds.
Mili was not happy with the decision but she stays positive and says it won't stop her from playing the sport that she loves.
