Ostraconophobics beware: Clams have invaded Newport Beach, with thousands of the tiny shellfish spreading all across the sands in Newport Beach.
Beachgoers first discovered the clams on Wednesday morning with many coming back to the beach to photograph and gawk at the tiny mollusks.
The tiny clams live under the sand on the coast, occasionally popping up to the surface in big numbers periodically. Experts say it's not uncommon for this many clams to appear at once once or twice in a decade.
Unfortunately, don't break out the garlic and butter just yet. Experts recommend against eating them. The best thing to do is just let the clams go back out with the tide.
