Over the weekend, Kevin De León gave the keynote address at UC Riverside's "Historic Mexican@ and Latin@ Summit: Strategic Response to Trump's Presidential Policies."
Here's a little bit about the event:
"RIVERSIDE, California – California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, will deliver the keynote address at a gathering of students, policymakers, and community activists that will suggest strategies for responding to Trump administration policies that are of concern to Latinos and others on Saturday, May 6, at the University of California, Riverside.
“Historic Mexican@ and Latin@ Summit: Strategic Response to Trump’s Presidential Policies” is free and open to the public. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Interdisciplinary North 1020. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Online reservations are required. Parking permits may be obtained at the kiosk on West Campus Drive at the University Avenue entrance to the campus.
The event is coordinated by Armando Navarro, UCR professor of ethnic studies emeritus, and sponsored by UCR Chicano Student Programs; Enrique Murillo, CSU San Bernardino professor and Latino Education and Advocacy Days (LEAD) executive director; and George Aguilar, chair of the Inland Empire Council, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC),
The summit is the culmination of planning meetings that began in December 2016 and continued during the early months of 2017. The program will consist of two panels – one of local, county, state, and federal representatives, and another composed of organization, community, and student activists.
Navarro said that many Latinos and Mexicans in the U.S. are concerned about President Trump’s derogatory comments about Mexicans during the campaign, and policies aimed at deporting 11 million undocumented immigrants, building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, renegotiating or canceling the NAFTA trade agreement, and policies that may hurt poor and middle-class Americans..."
De León was met with some pretty angry Trump supporters while he walked to his gas guzzling SUV. Remember when he sat in his SUV and ran the A/C for hours?
