The Dark Tower Releases its First Trailer

Long considered by the Hollywood elite as 'unadaptable' The Dark Tower series from Stephen King has finally released its first trailer for the movie that will debut on August 4th.

King's magnum opus began in the early eighties with the publication of The Gunslinger in 1982. The eight novel series took King more than two decades to complete, finally wrapping up the adventures of Jake, Oy, Roland, Eddie and Susannah Dean in 2004.

The series has long been a literary favorite for critics and audiences alike, but it's proved harder to adapt for the big screen than some of King's many other novels.

Numerous attempts have been made to adapt the sprawling book series - first as a series of films (much like the Harry Potter franchise was released), but now, it lives in Hollywood as a hybrid film/TV prequel project.

The book follows the group's adventures through a mysterious alternate dimension known as Mid-World to protect The Dark Tower - the thing that supposedly keeps reality in all dimensions intact.

The series is well-worth a read, but prepare for a long go of it. Like many of Stephen King's novels, the worldbuilding is an excellent accomplishment and a testimony to a master adept at his craft.

The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba as The Gunslinger, Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black, and Tom Taylor as Jake Chambers. The film opens on August 4th.
