Extreme Devotion in the Philippines for Easter

If you're ever in the Philippines around Easter, you're bound to see some pretty fervent Catholics subject themselves to extreme acts of devotion for their religion, and tourists flock to see it.

Volunteers have their backs whipped bloody during a procession, some walk carrying a crucifix, and some, do the whole shebang...complete with having themselves nailed to the cross!

Here's an example of the tradition.

The tradition is not officially endorsed by church leadership.
