Maryland woman finds live scorpion in her bag of spinach

Yesterday we told you about the dead bat that was found in a salad mix sold at a Florida Walmart.

Today we've got another similar story out of Maryland, where a woman found a live scorpion sitting in a bag of salad mix that had been bought at a Giant grocery store last week.

Shanmukha Pranay Rajeev Jerripothula said he and his wife picked up a bag of spinach from a local Giant store on Friday evening.

On Monday his wife Ari Sindhusha Boddapati opened the bag and saw something creepy:

“I saw something inside the bag crawling. I thought it was a cricket in the beginning, and then I noticed when it was [in] the bottle that it is a scorpion.”

Boddapati was able to trap the bug in a water bottle and send video of it to her husband. When he got home from work, he took the bottle to the store:

“I told them not to sell the spinach anymore, because it might contain a scorpion."

The store pulled the spinach from shelves for nearly six hours, but did not issue any recalls.

Keep an eye on your salad mixes for anything unusual!
