Kuwaiti woman detained for filming her maid's suicide attempt

Police in Kuwait have detained a woman for filming her Ethiopian maid plummeting seven stories in what appeared to be a suicide attempt.

The 12-second video shows the maid hanging to a window frame with one hand, before slipping and landing on a metal awning below.

What's amazing is that the maid survived the fall. What's disgusting, is that the woman filming made no attempt to help the maid back inside. She just stood there with her phone out and filmed.

You can here her tell the maid:

"Oh crazy, come back."

The maid shouts for the woman to "hold [her]" just before slipping and falling.

Paramedics rescued the maid and took her to the hospital, where she was found to have suffered nose and ear bleeding and a broken arm.

The Kuwait Society for Human Rights are calling for an investigation. In Kuwait there are more than 600,000 domestic helpers, many of them Asian, who complain about abuse, mistreatment, and not getting paid.

Hundreds of maids escape their employers each year because of abuse. Things are so bad that the government has had to set up shelters for victims.

It's clear that this maid's employer was pretty cruel to her. Hopefully she can get the help she needs.
