Man slips out of handcuffs, escapes from California deputies

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Southern California sheriff's deputies are searching for a suspect who slipped out of handcuffs and escaped from the back seat of a patrol car.

San Bernardino County officials say 31-year-old Charles Brown was arrested Sunday on suspicion of transporting narcotics.

Brown was taken to the Victorville Police Department to be interviewed but before he could be brought inside he managed to wriggle out of the cuffs and get out of the car.

The Los Angeles Times reports Monday that authorities searched the area with help from a helicopter crew and a K9 unit.

Officials say Brown is a black man with a tattoo of the letter "B'' between his eyebrows.
