Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah): Americans might need to choose between new iPhone or healthcare

Today Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said Americans might have to choose between buying that fancy new iPhone or paying for health insurance.

He said on CNN:

“You know what, Americans have choices. And they’ve got to make a choice. And so maybe, rather than getting that new iPhone that they just love and they want to spend hundreds of dollars on, maybe they should invest in their own healthcare.”

Yesterday Republicans revealed two new measures which would repeal and replace Obamacare.

The plan would make a tax credit system to incentivize people to buy health insurance.

Chaffetz said that the plan gets rid of the parts of Obamacare people don't want or need, like the individual mandate that requires you to buy coverage or pay a fine.

Chaffetz isn't wrong.  If you can't afford health insurance and you're living above your means, maybe you need to re-evaluate and budget your life.
