The off-duty LAPD officer caught on video firing his gun during a confrontation with teenagers in Anaheim has been identified as Kevin Ferguson.
Ferguson is back on the job, but he's not working in the field, according to LAPD Capt. Andy Neiman.
No one was hurt by the gunfire, but the video caused all kinds of uproar in Anaheim.
Ferguson's attorney, Larry Hanna, says his client fired the shot to defuse an escalating situation. He added that Ferguson had been punched in the face, and two other teens were coming at him:
“That’s why he then fires one round in a place where there’s nobody standing, in a downward direction to make people scatter. And that’s what happened. His aim was to make sure that nobody got hurt — him or anybody else.”
