Today the Newport Beach City Council will consider whether or not to ban 'jetpacks,' like these.
It seems that neighbors have been complaining about safety and noise and the city's Harbor Commission recommended that they be banned.
More than a year ago, the city council prohibited individuals from using the devices on their own, citing safety issues, but they continued to let Jetpack America provide the service for customers under strict guidelines.
But, according to City News Service, Jetpack America let its permit expire in November and so far, another company has not been licensed to take its place.
