Police: 1 person shot, wounded near South LA school

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say one person has been shot and wounded near a high school in South Los Angeles.

Television news footage showed paramedics rushing a victim on a gurney into an ambulance near Crenshaw High School Tuesday morning.

The victim's condition is not immediately known.

Officer Aareon Jefferson says a call of shots fired came in shortly before 8 a.m. on the 5000 block of 11th Avenue, where the school is located.

Officials say the suspected shooter was last seen in a dark-colored truck or SUV.

LA Unified School District spokeswoman Barbara Jones says no students were involved and classes were not in session at the time of the shooting. The school was locked down as a precaution during the police investigation.
