LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif. (AP) — The 20-year-old son of San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig has been found dead in Lake Arrowhead, a day after his friends reported him missing.
A sheriff's dive team found the body of Dawson Hartwig early Sunday in about 30 feet of water.
Dawson Hartwig was staying with friends at a mountain cabin when he went for a walk alone Friday and never came back. He was reported missing Saturday.
The Sun newspaper says Hartwig left without a cellphone and was not properly dressed for the weather, which included below-freezing overnight temperatures.
More than 70 fire and law enforcement personnel and many volunteers joined the search.
