Big Jake, the world's tallest horse, has died on his Wisconsin ranch, his owner sadly reports.
He was 20 years old.
"It's very quiet," says owner Jerry Gilbert. "The other horses know. I think they have their own grieving time because Jake was the center of attention around here. There is a huge void. It feels like he's still here, but he's not."
Measured from the top of his head to the bottom of his hooves, Big Jake was 6-feet, 10-inches tall and tipped the scales at 2,500 pounds, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. And he weighed 240 pounds at birth, which is about 100 pounds heavier than the typical newborn foal!
“Day to day, I think we will always feel that Jake is still here,” said Gilbert. “And I don’t think that will ever change,”
