LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County increased four-tenths of a cent to $3.227 today, its highest amount since Sept. 9 and its 14th increase in the past 15 days.
The average price is 3.7 cents more than one week ago and 7.2 cents higher than a month ago, but 39.2 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The Orange County average price remained the same at $3.206, after increasing for eight consecutive days to the highest it's been since March 23. It is 3.1 cents more than one week ago and 7.5 cents higher than a month ago, but 34.2 cents less than one year ago.
“Prices at the pump are still moving up slightly in response to gains last week in the wholesale market despite a 22 percent lower demand for gasoline in Western states for the week ending Dec. 19, according to Oil Price Information Service,'' said Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California.
