California River Floods Town

Rising floodwaters have surrounded a Northern California town.

The river in Sonoma County crested Wednesday night at over 45 feet, cutting off roads to Guerneville. Residents in the town of 45-hundred have been moving around in kayaks and canoes. A spokesman for the Sonoma County Emergency Operation Center said about two-thousand homes and buildings have been flooded.

County officials have asked California Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a state of emergency. More rain is forecast for Northern California this weekend.

The National Weather Service says a flood warning is in effect for parts of the region.
