48 Hours aired an episode Saturday night examining the case of death row inmate Kevin Cooper, who was convicted of stabbing to death four people in Chino Hills in 1983.
High-profile people including Kim Kardashian and Jerry Brown have long called for new DNA tests in an effort to free Cooper who claims he was framed and somebody else killed Doug and Peggy Ryen, their 10-year-old daughter Jessica and 11-year-old neighbor Christopher Hughes.
The 48 hours episode, which was mainly told through interviews with survivor Josh Ryen and investigators in the case, had some people close to the victims upset. Private investigator Paul Ingels alleged in the episode that a cover-up exists and doubts Cooper is guilty. Mother of Christopher, Mary Ann Hughes, is not happy with Ingels' statement and will be joining the show at 4:00 p.m. to talk about the CBS show.
Two previous DNA tests showed Cooper was the killer and his blood and the blood of one of the victims was on a T-shirt found by the side of the road. Cooper's attorney however, said his client's blood was planted on the T-shirt and that Cooper was framed.
Cooper escaped from a nearby prison east of Los Angeles two days before the murders.
