According to the LA Times, for the first time in more than 10 years, violent crime has risen in the city during the first 6 months of the year.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said the department is concernedabout the new number, but that overall crime is still down.

Violent crime was up 2.9%, with 8,610 crimes reported in the first six months of the year, compared with  8,371 reported during the first six months of 2013.
