According to the LA Daily NewsPaul Tanaka got a huge one-time payout of $339,424 when he retired for unused holiday, vacation, sick time and other leave that he accumulated in his 31 year career in the Sheriff’s Department.

In 2013, only working seven months, the county paid Tanaka $591,000.

According to county officials, Tanaka did not violate any rules nor did he try to "spike" his pension.
