According to the OC Register, three OC adults have been diagnosed with chikungunya fever (pronounced: chik-en-gun-ye) after traveling to the Caribbean this year.

The mosquito-borne virus is similar to dengue fever and is transmitted by yellow fever and Asian tiger mosquitoes, which thankfully are not found in orange County.

It is not transmitted person-to-person, but if a mosquito bites an infected person, it can then spread the illness to other people.
