Scientists fear that the California drought is drying up the groundwater basin which may cause more earthquakes. Groundwater withdrawal began in the Central Valley in 2011. With less water, the soil is sinking. A study suggests that the more water that gets pumped out of the area the higher risk of earthquakes along the San Andreas Fault.
