Sheriff's officials say the young man who went on a shooting rampage near UC Santa Barbara stabbed three people to death at his apartment and had three guns with hundreds of rounds in his car.

Officials say Elliot Rodger was driving a BMW near the university campus Friday night when he went on a shooting rampage killing another 3 people and then himself.

Rodger eventually crashed his black BMW into a parked car. Deputies found Rodger dead with a gunshot wound to the head, which officials say was self inflicted.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown called it a "chaotic, rapidly unfolding convoluted incident" that involved multiple crime scenes.  At one time, Brown says Rodger banged loudly on the door of a sorority but got no answer. Rodger then shot three women outside the house, killing two and injuring the third.

Rodger then shot at several people in nearby locations. He was twice engaged by deputies and was wounded in the hip as he drove.  The rampage ended when Rodger shot it out with deputies, hit a bicyclist, then crashed into some parked cars.

In a video, posted Friday, Rodger sits back in his car, looks at the camera, laughing often, and says he is going to take his revenge against humanity. He describes loneliness and frustration because "girls have never been attracted to me," and says, at age 22, he is still a virgin. The video, which is almost seven minutes long, appears scripted.

The shootings were first reported at 9:27 p.m. Friday night in Isla Vista, a roughly half-square mile community next to UC Santa Barbara's campus and picturesque coastal cliffs.  It was over about 10 minutes later.
