PETA Settles After Euthanizing Pet Chihuahua

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is settling a lawsuit with a Virginia family after members took a nine year old girl's pet chihuahua and euthanized it.  The PETA members took the dog from a mobile home park in Accomack after the park owner asked for help capturing wild dogs and cats.

The dog, Maya, was unattended, picked up and put down the same day, despite a state law requiring a five day waiting period.  PETA agreed to pay the family $49,000 and to donate $2,000 to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  It's less than the $7,000,000 the family had sought.
